Why pure water only — no detergent

Most cleaners use detergent because it’s faster. Detergent residue cuts panel efficiency. Even after rinsing, residue stays in panel micro-grooves and reduces light transmission.

I use pure deionised water only. No detergent, no residue, no efficiency loss. Industry standard for proper solar panel cleaning.

How I clean — safely, no roof walking

Walking on solar panels (and the roof tiles around them) risks:

  • Cracking panel glass
  • Damaging tile underneath
  • Voiding panel manufacturer warranty
  • Personal injury

I don’t walk on the roof. I use water-fed pole equipment with extension up to 12m (4-storey reach). Soft brushes designed for panel surfaces. Pure water rinse. All from ground level.

How much extra power will I get after cleaning?

Typically 5-15% recovery for moderately dirty panels. Heavily soiled panels (years uncleaned) can recover 20%+. Hard to guarantee a specific %, but every customer notices the difference on their solar generation app.

How often should solar panels be cleaned?

Once a year for most domestic homes. Twice a year if:

  • Property near trees (sap, debris)
  • Heavy bird traffic in area
  • Coastal location (salt buildup)
  • Urban location (Glasgow, Coatbridge — heavier pollution)

Does panel cleaning void manufacturer warranty?

Not when done with pure water and no detergent — manufacturers actually recommend regular cleaning. Walking on panels DOES void warranty. I don’t walk on panels.

Will you walk on my roof?

No. Water-fed pole reach from the ground. Safer for the panels, the tiles, and me.

Can you do commercial solar farms?

Yes. Same £5 per panel base rate. Volume discount for arrays over 100 panels. Mention it when you quote — I’ll set up a site visit.

Are you insured?

Fully — Public Liability + Employer’s Liability. Working at height training. Companies House registered (SC811789). Certificates available before booking.

How long does it take?

Typical 8-12 panel domestic array: 1-2 hours. Larger arrays scale linearly. I work efficiently — no faff.

What weather do you need?

Dry conditions and minimal wind. I don’t clean in heavy rain (water visibility issue) or strong wind (ladder/pole safety). Otherwise I work year-round.
